2008 Names!

I'm supposed to be packing for a trip, but Social Security just released their 2008 name list. We will talk about this more later, but here are the top ten for 2008:

I'm surprised to see Emma at number 1 for 2008...I would have thought it'd be number 1 several years ago.

Chloe is one of those rising names that will only get more popular, it seems.

I am surprised by Ethan, Alexander, and Anthony. I'm surprised that Evan is off the list.

None of the girls names are a surprise. I think I know 10 baby girls born in 2008 with one of those names or at least parents who were considering three off that list. They're sweet names, I don't think they'll fall out of favor any time soon.

Yippie! This is like the highlight of my year! So sad I know. They are earlier than last year - I wasn't expecting this until June.

In the last couple months, I know of one Madison, two Emmas (those in the last 2 weeks), a Sophie and a Chloe. Sounds about right . . .

My future daughter's are doomed to the same fate as me, as ALL of my favourite names are currently top ten names (Sophia, Isabella, Ava more specifically). But it's alright. I like that they're recognizable names that won't be mixed up or mispelled too much. And my future hubby will probably call any future daughters by Polish nicknames of their names, so they'll still get something unique.

For boys, I like a bunch of the boys names on here, but my top two boys names are Owen and Zachary and while I know they are known and popular, they are not top ten!

I'm glad to see the rhymers (Aiden, Braeden, Jaden, Caden, etc etc etc) aren't occupying the list. I like these names, but I don't really want to teach a class of rhyming names in the future, haha.

In my mind, the only reason that Aiden isn't at the top of the boys' list is because there are multiple spellings. Because, seriously, if I had to make a list of popular boys names from around me, Aiden/Aidan/Aaden/Ayden would definitely be #1. With Jack as close second. But, see, Jack is a nickname for Jackson, John, Johnathan, it probably wouldn't show up either.

I'm just saying...maybe the SS list should have alternate spellings included in their tally.

Really good point, Giselle.

Isla debuted this year at 623. I think it's going to go Ava on us.

Why do so many people keep naming their boys the same thing! 10 years Jacob has been number 1 - geez!

I love Emma, but its just way too popular now (and I know a bunch). I was a little surprised by how much Hannah fell, and Sarah is the lowest it has been in decades, which almost makes it usable again...

I really am also surprised Madison is still as high as it is - I definitely thought (and still think) that was a trend that would fade soon.

It will be fun to investigate the 2008 trends and hypothesize what or who caused them though!

I find the boy's names so boring.
